Why I work in translation
I started Begonia Translations in 2010, when I became a NAATI accredited translator English to Dutch. Like a begonia, I easily took root and blossomed when transplanted from the Netherlands to Australia. I am a native Dutch speaker, and near-native English speaker and have worked in environmental science for Australian government agencies since 1995. I love both language and science. These two passions came together in my translation of D'Arcy Thompson's book classic natural science book On Growth and Form that was published by Meromorf Press in 2016. On the 22nd of January 2019 the Dutch translation of Sir Roger Penrose’s book The Road to Reality, titled De weg naar de werkelijkheid was published by Meromorf Press. I have worked on this book for 2 years (part-time) on the Dutch text with editing, translation and proofreading.
